Good scheme. I had a few ups and downs early in the second half of last year (2008) and finished up pretty depressed in mid October through November. It wasn't the first such bout I'd had but probably the longest and deepest. At the beginning of December I made an early "new year's resolution" to do something useful every day - doesn't have to be much, just something which moves "the plan" forward, not simply maintenance type activities.

There have been a few days when I haven't managed that but most days I have. The good things are:

1) that once you're doing something it often leads to getting something else done,

2) any activity tends to break the cycle of depression and

3) having met the objective of getting something done there's something to hold up against the feeling that really you should have done more.

The other "resolution" I made at the same time was to not drink caffeine after 3pm and to be in bed by midnight - reading for a while once in bed's OK. I do find keeping my body clock reasonably closely in aligned with the planet's rotation takes some work but does help.
