The Small House Project — Free Tiny Home Plans

Up until now, there hasn’t been much in the way of free home plans for people who are interested in a tiny home on wheels similar to the Tumbleweed Tiny Houses. Due to the generosity of one member of the Small House Movement, it looks like that’s about to change.
Joseph Kenyon has just started the Free House Project and is making available exploded, 3D, and sideview drawings of tiny homes. Several are already available and he intends to continue to significantly expand this site.
Joseph writes: “I don’t get anything at all from designing them and giving them away except the knowledge that I may be helping at least one person out there. I hope you like them and can make use of them.”
Please help get the word out there about Joseph’s site, and if you’re excited about what he’s doing, I suggest sending him a quick note of thanks.

Thanks for the excellent post. Joseph’s tiny homes are so cute!
I love his designs. I just need a place to build one of these cute little homes…
Hi Steph,
I kind of rewrote your post and put in on the Tiny House Blog to help spread the word. Hope that is ok!
Kent, that’s absolutely fine! I think the whole point is to get the word out there so people can make use of the plans.
Hey Steph,
I’m going to post this on RowdyKittens – awesome information!
I love Joseph’s plans – this is such great news. Especially for folks who are tying to build on small budgets. Take care.
I want to thank everyone for their well wishes and great comments and help.
The idea here is to help those less fortunate.
And you are all helping me do just that.
I truly appreciate it.
And if the designs and ideas help at least one person out there to have a place to live,
I will be happy.
Thank you all.
Joseph Kenyon

I am looking for house plans on a tiny one bedroom house my brother-in -law is going to build, I have to turn house plans into the city before i can get a building permit. Does anyone know where I can find free or very cheap house plans?
Charlotte, do you know if your city requires an architectural stamp on the plans? That’s going to make a difference on the options. If they don’t, I would recommend checking out some of Jay Shafer’s plans for larger homes (i.e. more than 150 square feet). His typically run arounf$ 400-$500. You may also want to look at some of the small home plan books at your local bookstore.
Unfortunately, architectural plans don’t come cheap most of the time. I’ve seen anything from $300 to upwards of $5000 when it comes to plans for a larger house with an architectural stamp.
If it turns out you do need the stamp, you might also be able to buy a set of plans fairly cheaply and then hire a local architect on an hourly fee to sign off the plans.
If you’re not already on it, you might also try asking your question on the Small House. Society yahoogroups. You might be able to get several other suggestions there. Their address is smallhousesocietyonline@yahoogroups.com.
It looks like the link to Joseph Kenyon’s Free House Project is defunct; do you know if his ideas went by the wayside or does he have an alternate website available?
