Heather, I'm sorry you're having to go through this. You and your husband have chosen to do something that is radically outside the American norm. That can make it hard for others to wrap their mind around and for those that are close to you even a little scary. If you'd like a sympathetic ear you're more than welcome to shoot me an email.

For what it's worth, I think my family struggled with my decision to move where I have, as well. I'm not sure my father understands even now.

Thanks for the comment on the article. :)

Steph,

Just wanted to write in to say how much I loved your article in SLJ. I woke up this morning so dispirited, mostly because every single person we've told about our plan to sell our house and move into a small shipping container home thinks we're completely crazy. This includes our families (my family is currently not speaking to me over this!).

Anyway, I just felt low, and sat down this morning and the latest issue of SLJ was in my inbox. And there was your article.

And it made me so happy! It reminded me that our hearts really do know best, in spite of what everyone else is thinking and saying, and it really brought to light, again, why we're doing this.

Thanks for the perfect article at the perfect moment!
