Floating Homes: A Houseboat Handbook
by Ted Laturnus
Currently out of print but definitely worth tracking down if you’re seriously considering living in a floating home. Mr. Laturnus’ book is the most useful one I’ve found to-date on practical matters like handling utilities and maintaining the health of your house.

A beautiful collection of color photos of floating homes. This is probably my favorite book to thumb through for inspiration on redesigning and decorating my own place.
Staying Afloat Life Aboard Houseboats, Barges, and Liveaboards by Jeri Callahan
This book is pretty much a collection of stories of various people who’ve chosen to live aboard in the Seattle area. Through the stories, you get a basic history of the evolution of the Seattle floating home communities and a glimpse at what life is like aboard a floating home. Also contains charming sketches of several of the homes being described but no photos.
