The Complete Tightwad Gazette by Amy Dacyczyn
Ms. Dacyczyn, self-styles as the”Frugal Zealot” published a newsletter for six years promoting frugal living. This book is a compilation of the best articles produced during that time. Ms. Dacyczyn takes frugality to levels way beyond what most modern Americans may have considered.

Getting a Life: Real Lives Transformed by “Your Money or Your Life” by Jacqueline Blix and David Heitmiller
As much as I like practical information, I find even more useful stories of people applying advice to their everyday lives. I found this a great supplement to Mr. Dominguez and Ms. Robin’s book.

Money Drunk, Money Sober; 90 Days to Financial Freedom by Mark Bryan and Julia Cameron
A good reference on tackling your own, personal areas of money craziness. One of the co-authors, Ms. Cameron, is also well-known for her Artist’s Way series.

Not Buying It: My Year Without Shopping by Judith Levine
The diary of the author who, along with her husband, pledges not to spend money on any consumer goods or experiences for the year.

Your Money or Your Life: A Study Guide for Groups produced by The New Roadmap Foundation
A resource for people wanting to work as groups through “Your Money or Your Life”.

Your Money or Your Life: Transforming Your Relationship with Money and Achieving Financial Independence by Joe Dominguez and Vicki Robin
Perhaps my favorite book on money management. The authors teach you to start thinking of money as life energy. This book made me start being much more mindful of how I was choosing to spend my money.

Transforming Your Relationship With Money: A Complete Workbook & Audio CD Course by Joe Dominguez
Taken from audio tapes of Mr. Dominguez’ lectures. While the sound quality made drive some audiophiles nuts, Mr. Dominguez is a very personable lecturer. I felt both the lectures and study guide provided a great supplement to the book.

Unjobbing: The Adult Liberation Handbook by Michael Fogler
Provides great, out-of-the-box thinking on redesigning your worklife.

Online Groups and Websites:

A group of individuals committed to curtailing their consumer spending to bare essentials for a calendar year.

The Compact Yahoo Group
Discussion list for people participating in The Compact.

Debtor’s Anonymous
A useful resource for people who have a serious problem with compulsive spending/debting. (This is a 12-Step program similar in format to AA.)
